Much like his old tag partner Damien Sandow, Curtis Axel is possibly out of chances in WWE. Unlike Sandow, though, he doesn't have a strong social media following at his back. The former Michael McGillicutty received a huge push when he re-debuted as Axel, and it flopped big time. He subsequently didn't get over in RyBaxel, and his Hulk Hogan imitation as a gimmick was embarrassing for everyone involved. Some conspiracy theorists claim that the real Hogan purposefully leaked the tape of himself making racist comments so WWE would be forced to take Axel's impression of him off the air. Okay, that's something I just made up. Axel's brief claim that he was still in the Royal Rumble match was fun, but WWE made sure to job him out like crazy so he had no chance at getting over. The reason why he may have lasted this long at all is because HHH is apparently a fan of his, but even he has to realize when someone else deserves a shot. You can see Axel transitioning into the role of an NXT coach, but unlike his father, Axel just doesn't have "it." He's a solid in-ring wrestler, and in the 80s that would have been enough to earn him a full-time job with a more charismatic tag team partner, but that's not how WWE runs things these days. Axelmania looks ready to end anytime now.
