Currently trapped in the purgatory that is the Raw tag division - a scene in which a man pissing on things has literally become a key narrative point - Chad Gable is making television most weeks and has gold around his waist, but his current situation has a clear glass ceiling.

Nonetheless, while we appreciate that the fact that WWE have done precisely nothing with the former Olympian over the past few years means there are major doubts when it comes to him potentially getting pushed, he could be set for something better in 2019. He’s charismatic, a great wrestler, and someone with a proven track record of getting things over. On top of this, there are clear parallels between American Alpha and his partnership with Bobby Roode. It feels like they were only put together to eventually pull a split angle, and that could be the tonic needed to establish Big Bad Chad as a singles act.

He doesn’t need to be competing for World Titles, but a Seth Rollins-esque Intercontinental Championship run, with Gable putting on good-to-great matches against a wide variety of opponents, would get him over huge.
