10 WWE Wrestlers Who Were Too Entertaining For Their Own Good

WWE: Be A Star! (Unless you work there...)

For a company with "Entertainment" built into its name, WWE sure has a problem with actually entertaining the fans.

Through a mixture of straightforward incompetence & outright malevolence, WWE has proven itself to be a master in cooling down its talent just when they're at their hottest. From nonsensical heel turns to wilfully destructive booking, every wrestler on this list saw creative meddling result in their fan approval plummeting like WWE's TV ratings.

Gosh, do you think there might be a connection there?

This isn't exclusively a modern problem - the oldest entry on this list comes from more than 20 years ago - but when writing this article it became readily apparent that WWE is an utter crapshoot for contemporary talent. So many wrestlers have got over on their own merits, only for their success to be met with condemnation from the people running the show.

When the former World Wrestling Federation transformed into World Wrestling Entertainment, fans were told to "Get the F Out". Unfortunately, that slogan seems to have become the company motto for dealing with wrestlers whose popularity didn't figure into WWE's plans...

10. Fandango

Doo-Do! Do Do Do Dooo Do Do Dooo-Do!

Anyone else remember the Fandango surge? Even almost ten years removed from the height of its popularity, the former Johnny Curtis' theme music can still bring a smile to the listener's face.

A smile which quickly vanishes when looking through the wreckage of his WWE career.

Despite beating the legendary Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 29, Fandango's career faltered almost immediately after. Despite the popularity of his theme music (check out the video of people dancing to it on the metro), 'Dango spent most of his time in WWE staring at the lights, never winning a single title on the main roster.

Redemption for Fandango appeared to be around the corner when he teamed with the equally mishandled Tyler Breeze to form the incredibly entertaining Breezango. (RIP Fashion Files). Unfortunately, both on the main roster and down in NXT Breezango were never seen as more than something to pop the crowd on the way to the main event, as opposed to main event talent themselves. Even their sole tag title win lasted less than two months.

Fandango was always overshadowed by his gimmicks - from his entrance music as a singles wrestler to his outrageous entrances as part of Breezango - and WWE clearly viewed him as all sizzle, no steak.
