11 Wrestlers Who Broke Their Necks In The Ring
2. Steve Austin
The biggest star in the history of the business hardly needs any introduction, especially given that he was on this list a few entries earlier due to playing a large part in the breaking of Masahiro Chono's neck.
History has a funny way of repeating itself at times, so when Owen Hart executed the same sit-down tombstone that Austin had used on Chono just a few years before it stands to reason that the cosmic jester would have something to say about it.
Austin landed directly on top of his head, breaking his neck as a result. Despite this, he still managed to finish the match with an unsurprisingly weak roll-up.
The incident caused friction between Austin and Owen - due to Austin claiming that Hart never apologised - and would plague Stone Cold throughout the rest of his career.
He wound up taking a year out for surgery when his character was at its hottest and it was issues with his neck that eventually led to his retirement following a match against The Rock at WrestleMania XIX.
