The increasingly hyperactive nature of All Elite Wrestling's weekly television has left us with this: the most black-and-gold NXT pay-per-view card in company history.

Like Triple H's grimdark developmental brand at the height of its hot-shotting, Double Or Nothing 2022 is a collection of great match graphics, not the product of a great build. This isn't true of every match, admittedly. A handful pass the long-memeified #LongTermStorytelling test, but the majority of these bouts, while exciting on paper, have not come through robust writing.

Even matches as high up the card as CM Punk vs. World Champion 'Hangman' Adam Page have suffered from Dynamite moving at 100mph at all times, never slowing to let big moments land. A bout this big on paper should not feel so normal this close to bell time.

Nonetheless, the silver lining is that most of what AEW plans on serving this Sunday evening looks tremendous on paper. From the House of Black vs. Death Triangle to Serena Deeb vs. Thunder Rosa, DON 2022 appears set to become a night of big pops and bigger star ratings, with multiple title fights, two Owen Hart Cup tournament finals, a tag team dream match, and more.

It's a shame about the undercooked build. Let's hope the pay-per-view helps us forget it...

NOTE: This Double Or Nothing lineup was correct at the time of writing. Any additions made on the 27 May Rampage came after submission.
