But then in 2017, after returning to the fold to help buff SmackDown's numbers in the wake of the new Brand Split, Heath Slater's former bandmate was suddenly pushes to the top of the card, where - to the disbelieving eyes of everybody with eyes - he became WWE champion. Jinder Mahal. A no-questions-asked jobber and complete non-entity. So what changed?
