12 Most Notorious Kane Urban Legends

The Big Red Machine of mystery.

Kane has been one of the WWE's most fascinating characters ever. Given the enigmatic nature of his formative years, it should be no surprise that several notorious urban legends have grown up around The Big Red Machine. He debuted at Badd Blood 1997, at the climax of The Undertaker versus Shawn Michaels Hell In A Cell match. Right away, fans were hooked. It is even reasonable to suggest that the first urban legends started to form right in those initial seconds. One look at the behemoth and fans were already spreading rumours of who was under the red and black mask. WWE encouraged much of the mystery. Kane was fully covered and he never talked. The mysterious look said and did it all, propelling Kane to being one of the biggest stars of the Attitude Era. In the entire 90's wrestling industry, he was visually one of the most recognisable grapplers on the planet. Ultimately, it was a six year run. Even within three years, WWE had watered so much of Kane's aura down. He started to cut promos and became a babyface, which inevitably evolved into a comedy character. By the time Kane unmasked in 2003, WWE had already nullified a lot of the character meaning. Nevertheless, in 2015, Kane is still one of the most prominently featured characters. The longevity and quality of his work is quite remarkable. Even more so when you consider he jettisoned the mask so long ago. The nostalgia for the Attitude Era peak has meant that the Kane urban legends have never really gone away. It is now time to get behind the true story of WWE's veteran hellraiser.
