12 Most Shocking WWE Title Changes
9. Andre Defeats Hogan
Speaking of Hulk Hogan, his first reign seemed like it would never end, lasting over four years and dominating the early Golden Age of WWF. It was very much the heyday of 'HulkaMania', which made his eventual loss to Andre the Giant in February 1988 all the more shocking.
Andre's win must be considered among the most shocking heel victories of all time, up there with Lesnar's defeat of Undertaker at WrestleMania 30, and another legendary villainous win we'll discuss later in the list.
Unfortunately, the angle was mired in the sort of murky booking which would later come to characterise Hogan's career. Rather than put the giant over properly, Hogan benefitted from a 'bribed referee' angle in which Earl Hebner counted three despite the Hulkster kicking out.
Andre then attempted to give the title to Ted DiBiase, which caused it to be vacated. It was eventually won by Macho Man Randy Savage at the WrestleMania IV tournament a couple of months later.
