Heyman also talked about Lesnar's regrets in leaving MMA, a narrative line that has hung over the deal very tangibly.

"He's a competitor and the moment he announced his retirement from mixed martial arts I think he regretted it. And I think he regretted the fact that for the first time in his life he's in perfect health and he's never had the chance to compete while he's had perfect health."

That's despite the manner of Lesnar's retirement citing problems with diverticulitis and reaffirming in 2015 that he was closing the door on the Octagon. Clearly something has changed in the meantime, and there's very much a sense from Heyman that it all comes down to condition:

"So it's the one decision in his life he was second guessing and therefore for his own mindset I think this is the greatest thing that's ever happened to him, because he gets to go back and do something while he's at an age that he can still do it that he truly needs in his heart of hearts to do. Because competition is in his blood and he wasn't ready to walk away from that yet."
