12 Times WWE Brutally CANCELLED World Championship Reigns
2. Mabel
He was certainly more advanced between the ropes than Jinder Mahal was, but Diesel remains in contention for being among the worst WWE Champions ever because he couldn't draw a dime. It's well-documented that the WWF did its worst business across the 358 days he held the thing, with his reign also being among the many reasons why the New Generation Era is heralded as the worst in history.
Vince McMahon needed a quick fix, and he genuinely, genuinely believed that he had found it in Mabel.
Booked to win the King of the Ring, booked to challenge Diesel at SummerSlam, and booked to win the WWF Championship, 1995 was going to be a fortuitous year for Mabel - until it wasn't. Alleged backstage interference saw The Kliq convince Mr McMahon into seeing the error of his ways, and Diesel went on to spend another three months as the WWF's top guy until, at Survivor Series, he met his actual maker: Bret Hart.
Thank, and this cannot be stressed enough, Christ Shawn Michaels and friends had the backstage sway they did at the time. Crowning Mabel would have been like crowning Jinder Mahal in 2017!
Oh, wait...
