5. MJF Vs Daniel Garcia

AEW

MJF’s latest beltless AEW World Championship defence was almost too slick for its own good - the exchanges with challenger Daniel Garcia were so fantastic that it felt like both had more in the chamber, but it was hard to argue with the effectiveness of the definitive win.

Garcia is lost, and he lost again here. But the old Daniel Garcia used to study losses, understand where he went wrong, and grow. MJF and everybody else in the building wanted to help him bring that back, but it wasn’t by identifying a limb that got targeted or a pro wrestling trap he fell into - it was by pointing the finger at bad influences 2Point0.

The three were friends before the Jericho Appreciation Society and thus have the tightest bond in the aftermath of its pathetic disintegration, but AEW shrewdly shifted bad booking to the fault of the bad guys. Garcia needs to break free of everything that’s cost him so much, and in storylines now, it’s continuing to be swayed by Cool Hand Ang and Daddy Magic. What he couldn’t do here he will do down the line. Away from a tidy TV match, this was a major light at the end of the tunnel.
