12 Wrestlers Who Cheated Death

6. Darren Drozdov

When Steve Austin was dropped on his head at SummerSlam 1997, he was temporarily paralysed. Thankfully, he was able to move again after a few minutes, and was even able to walk away from the ring. The same can't be said for poor Darren Drozdov, who has only just started to regain feeling in his upper body and arms following a botched move in 1999. D'Lo Brown was his opponent on an episode of Smackdown in October, 1999. Performing his Running Powerbomb spot, D'Lo was unable to fully grip Droz's ring attire. In addition to that, Droz couldn't really jump into the move properly, aiding his peer. The result was that Droz came down hard on his neck, fracturing his neck and scaring everyone backstage. Staged injuries are commonplace, but this was obviously very real. From there, Drozdov was consigned to a wheelchair, and he still hasn't walked to this day. To his credit, Droz told D'Lo not to blame himself, citing the botch as a complete accident. Nonetheless, the fact remains that it could have been even worse. Droz could have been killed by the accident, which exists as a reminder of how dangerous pro wrestling can be.
