This match was supposed to happen in late 1986 and actually did in Providence, RI but plans for a long-term program were quickly nixed after the results did not go the way WWF officials had hoped. On what would become a rare broadcast of Jake Robert's Snake Pit interview segment, Jake hit the Hulkster with a DDT on the floor of the set that elicited cheers from the crowd despite Jake being the heel. The segment was only shown in the Providence, RI market as they were promoting a December 30, 1986 match between Hulk and Jake. The story goes that the Snake Pit segment did air in other regions but without the DDT as it was cut from the interview. The entire program was killed shortly after and Jake was quickly turned babyface. Roberts wouldn't have another realistic chance of challenging Hogan again until turning heel in late 1991, but by then, the timing didn't work out. Coincidentally, both men wrestled their last match in their first WWF run at WrestleMania VIII. Hulk won via disqualification over Sid Justice, and Jake took the Tombstone, becoming The Undertaker's second victim of The Streak. Jake had more to gain from a feud with Hogan in 1987 and, outside a handful of house show matches, the two would never square off again.
