Few wrestlers have had the legitimate tough guy image that Dr. Death Steve Williams did during his career. Williams had a solid football and amateur wrestling background and built a reputation during his time in WCW and All Japan Pro Wrestling. In 1998, he was brought in to the WWF as a possible world title contender. But first, he entered the ill-fated Brawl for All tournament, which he was pegged to win. The theory was that Williams would win the tough guy tournament, which would set him up for a world title shot against Stone Cold Steve Austin. However, things took an unexpected turn when Dr. Death got injured during a bout with Bart Gunn (the eventual winner of Brawl for All) and then got knocked out, severely damaging Williams tough guy image. Dr. Death would be out of the WWF months later, never getting his hands on Austin or the world title.
