13 Unluckiest WWE Wrestlers

By Scott Carlson /

8. €œDr. D€ David Schultz

This is one of the best (worst?) examples of circumstances conspiring against you. David Schultz is not known to a lot of wrestling fans today, but in 1984, he was on the cusp of becoming something pretty notable. Schultz was brought in to the WWF and became a top heel in the company just as the Rock €˜n Wrestling connection was being forged. It looked like he could be an important component of the WWF€™s explosion into the mainstream. And then it all fell apart.During a backstage interview with John Stossel of 20/20, Schultz delivered two open-handed slaps to the reporter on camera after Stossel asked Schultz if wrestling was fake. Stossel sued WWF and Schultz was fired just as WrestleMania was taking hold. He missed out on being part of one of the biggest boom periods in wrestling history as a result of €œdefending the business.€
