1. Mitsuharu Misawa Vs. Kenta Kobashi March 1st, 2003 (Navigate for Evolution)
This is the best professional wrestling match that I have ever seen. Arguably NOAHs greatest match ever, and the 2003 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Match of the Year for 2003, this great encounter is reminiscent of both mens legendary feuds in AJPW. Basically, Kobashi was on a roll after spending over a year out of action with extensive knee surgery and rehab. In 2002 he came back and started dominating once again, and won a #1 contenders spot against the GHC Heavyweight Champion. To the surprise of absolutely no one, this match was unbelievable. Every move had a meaning, and told the story of Kobashi finally surpassing the legendary Misawa as top guy of the company. Among the most impressive maneuvers youll find in this match include: a flying body press off the top turnbuckle that sends Misawa face-first into the steel barrier; a Tiger Suplex off the ring apron, every single signature move from both men; and finally, Kobashis faithful Burning Hammer. You know youre in for an exciting match when such a legendary move has to be brought out. This match marked the beginning of Kobashis 2-year reign as GHC Heavyweight Champion. It is a masterpiece of a match, combining excellent psychology and storytelling elements, impressive reversals and technical skill, and a plethora of sick-looking bumps and high-risk maneuvers. After all, what else does a good match need?
