15 Things You Might Have Missed From Last Night’s WWE SmackDown
1. There Was No Mention Of Almas Being NXT Champion
According to Tom Phillips, Corey Graves and Byron Saxton, new SmackDown star Andrade Almas had a "lot of success on NXT". That was it, that was all the trio said about Andrade's time in development.
Neither commentary nor the usual entrance graphics WWE use on the show informed casual viewers that he's a former NXT Champion. Wouldn't it have been wise to establish that from the off and talk up Zelina Vega's abilities as a valet at the same time?
The "lot of success" line was generic, didn't paint the picture of Almas as a major player coming to SmackDown and felt a bit ignorant. It's in WWE's best interests to push NXT as must-see programming, and that's something they should keep in mind.
Almas being an ex-NXT Champ means way more than beating up jobbers.
