Last week's episode of NXT was monumental in every sense of the word. Coming off the back of a special event the calibre of Takeover: Respect, you would have been forgiven for expecting the show to be a bit dull given how far the special event's proverbial ball was knocked out of the park - that's so often the case, isn't it? Triple H et al throw their own proverbial curve ball as they had Apollo Crews win the battle royal for the number one contender's spot to Finn Balor's NXT Championship. What made it such as surprise? Crews certainly has what it takes to go all the way to the very top in the WWE, but the timing is what threw a lot of NXT's fans off the scent. The former Dragon Gate star only made his debut at SummerSlam weekend's Brooklyn event so his ascension to the top of the card rivals anything done by the likes of Kevin Owens and others. On top of that, we saw the debut of Nia Jax after seemingly years of vignettes previewing her arrival, while Alexa Bliss is now seemingly the challenger to Bayley's NXT Women's Championship.
