Years ago, being the Intercontinental Champion meant that you were a true workhorse and seen by many to be the very best worker in the company. This was at the time when the likes of Tito Santana, Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, Mr. Perfect, Bret Hart, and Shawn Michaels all held the belt. Whilst it had become a hot potato at times during the Attitude Era and beyond, when the belt landed in the arms of Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 31, there was a renewed optimism about the status of the title. From what were led to believe, the plan was for Bryan to do for the IC Title what John Cena did for the US Title, with both of these former World Champions using their star power and ability to make their respective belts all-important. Unfortunately, we never got to see how Bryans run as IC Champ wouldve played out, for injury would see him forfeit the title before he ever really got going with it. That said, this title win was still a great moment for Bryan and his fans as it was his last big moment, his last Mania moment, his last title win, and just seeing that famed, iconic Intercontinental Championship in the possession of Daniel Bryan was enough to get fans salivating at the possibilities.
