In 2011, Vince McMahon's "Mr. McMahon" character was effectively retired when his son-in-law Triple H spoke on behalf of the Board of Directors to tell him he was relieved of his duties. The ruling really didn't stick because Vince appeared on TV plenty of times after that, but it was mostly just a way to end his run as a character.
