It was fitting that The Rock got to main event the first edition of Smackdown (as a full time show) since WWE got the name of the show from his "lay the smackdown" catchphrase. Other than Steve Austin, Triple H was probably The Rock's best opponent. He lost on this night thanks to corrupt ref Shawn Michaels giving him a superkick.
