When The Sandman was re-dubbed 'Hardcore Hak' for the purposes of his short WCW run in 1999, a lot of fans noticed that something seemed to be missing from the man's performances. Overall, Hak just didn't quite have the same danger about him as The Sandman had shown in ECW. Perhaps one reason for that was that Jim Fullington, the man behind the Singapore Cane-swinging persona, wasn't allowed alcohol before his matches in Atlanta. In ECW, no such rules existed to prevent The Sandman from getting smashed before hitting the ring, and Fullington has even admitted that he was drunk for many of his featured bouts in ECW, and therefore doesn't remember many of them. Drinking on his way to the ring, The Sandman had also been sinking beers for the majority of the day before shows, making him quite the unpredictable opponent when a match got underway. It's quite a sobering thought (pun intended) to imagine an inebriated Sandman swinging chairs at the heads of his rivals, whilst completely and utterly wrecked.
