Eric Bischoff famously said "controversy creates cash" in an attempt to explain why he allowed so many dirty, underhanded tactics during his time running WCW. While that is true to an extent, it isn't a universal truth. If it were, WCW would probably still be in business, and the combination of Bischoff and Vince Russo would be the two-headed monster putting the shows together. Whether it's controversy of the positive or negative variety, wrestling fans love to discuss the controversial. It gives them something to write, tweet or post on message boards about. It gives them something to complain about, which starts up entirely new conversations and arguments. Through the years, we've all seen our fair share of controversy, and that has only been amplified since the birth of the pay-per-view format for wrestling in the mid-1980's. The shows on this list are, for one reason or another, very controversial pay-per-views. Some are for good reasons, and others are for terrible reasons, but they've all been the subject of many a conversation with fans all over the globe, and will probably continue to be for years to come. They aren't your average, run-of-the-mill events that came and went, only to be forgotten soon thereafter.
