The McMahon-Helmsley Era made life a living hell for a number of WWE Superstars as the new Millennium approached but no man endured more emotional pain and suffering than Mick Foley, who was fired from his job and openly mocked on a weekly basis by Triple H and Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley. Having his entire legacy made a joke of by his prime nemesis, Foley returned to television following a protest by the entire WWE roster and immediately set his sights on punishing the man who had caused him so much pain. At Royal Rumble, he would challenge The Game for the WWE Championship in a Street Fight, but not as his most popular alter-ego Mankind. No, instead, he would challenge Triple H as the vile and ruthless Cactus Jack. With fans desperate to see Jack tear apart the egotistical champion inside Madison Square Garden in New York City, the two waged a bloody war over the top prize in the industry. Sledgehammers, barbed wire and thumbtacks were used and by the time the referee slapped the mat for the third time, Triple H was lucky enough to leave with his championship reign alive and well. The match was a ferocious display of hatred that did not bring about a conclusion to the rivalry. Instead, it only served to further intensify it.
