At Survivor Series 2011, CM Punk recaptured the WWE Title from Alberto Del Rio, kick-starting an iconic 434-day title reign which ended with his defeat at the hands of The Rock at the 2013 Royal Rumble. This year-plus reign was the longest of the modern era for a major WWE title, as not since Hulk Hogan's 1,474 reign in the mid-1980s had anyone held a title for this many days, though John Cena did get very close with his impressive 380 days in 2006-2007. Again, it cemented just how much the WWE, despite their tumultuous relationship with Punk, did genuinely believe in him as a champ able to carry the company.
