WWE front-loaded their 'Grandest Stage's main event with eight key players in order to make the most of a WrestleMania without both Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Undertaker, but the resultant four-way was a big swing and bigger miss despite the best of intentions.

The company smartly kept the Triple H/Rock WWE Championship singles clash to hand for the following month's Backlash (and a bumper buyrate), but the deflating ending here concluded a desperately dull headliner.

The Big Show wasn't over enough, Mick Foley wasn't fit enough, and 'The Game' himself couldn't quite maintain the heat needed for a true heel victory. 'The Great One's attack on Stephanie McMahon was an awkwardly important add-on to send the fans home happy.
