4 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Rampage (June 30)

Ups...

There was nothing fancy about Shawn Spears vs. The Blade. That's a compliment though! It was approx five minutes of two rugged guys pasting the sh*t out of another and having fun, and it worked. Also, it's sweet to see Spears pick up the win (as he should over a tag guy like Blade).

The finish, in particular, was really well done; Blade rolled to the outside, spotted Spears on the top rope, leapt back inside the ring then took a C4 for the three after failing to cut Shawn down. Meanwhile, after winning, Spears kept an eye on The Butcher on the off chance he was about to get jumped.

Solid, solid work.

Both guys made the most of their minutes here, and the fact they had such a fun showing without any sort of story context to speak of is incredible. Just think what would be possible if they had some heat going in, or some sort of narrative hook.
