Which stars stole the spotlight at Impact Wrestling Genesis 2021?
Impact Wrestling's first Impact Plus special of 2021 saw not only the return of the Genesis brand, but also the Super X Cup tournament, which brought with it some new faces to the company in the form of KC Navarro, Tre LaMar, and eventual tournament runner-up, Blake Christian. Coming into 9 January, things seemed all fine and dandy for the Anthem-helmed promotion. They've got Hard To Kill in a week, a pay-per-view main evented by the AEW World Champion, Kenny Omega.
They wouldn't dare mess up their first big event of the new year, right?
Wrong.
Despite its, at times, fantastic action in the tournament - seriously, the finals between Blake Christian and tournament winner Ace Austin is must-see pro wrestling - the special suffered from its illogical booking and crap wrestling, most prominent in the non-tournament bouts. To cut a long story short; Moose awarded Willie Mack a win when he'd realistically already won the match himself, Cousin Jake is allowed to thrive without his trio of rivals blocking his path through a tournament, Jazz should have stayed retired, and Tre LaMar is petrified of stuffed monkeys.
At least we had the finals, though. Let's get to it...
