5 Awful Wrestling Halloween Gimmick Matches You Need To Know About

By Kenny McIntosh /

1. The Chamber Of Horrors

In 1991, WCW wanted to put on a huge cage match for their Halloween Havoc show. On one team you had El Gigante, The Steiners and Sting and opposing them were the monster team of Abdullah The Butcher, The Diamond Studd (Scott Hall), Cactus Jack and Vader. With these eight big names involved, it was to be a hit of an idea, right?

Wrong. Rather than having a regular cage match, WCW decided to have caskets and other weapons in the cage and have an Electric Chair in the centre of the ring. You read that correctly. To win the match, you had to strap an opponent into the chair and electrocute him.

Please remember that when we complain about 3 hour RAW shows, that it could always be worse.

Watching the match, it€™s evenmore terrible than it sounds. The camera work is horrible, the wrestling is clunky, the fans don€™t seem to know what€™s going on but it builds to final moments which are so horribly executed that I€™m in a fit of laughter even trying to type what happens...

Abdullah gets Rick Steiner in the chair for Cactus to pull the lever & get the win for the team but Rick manages to get out and puts Abdullah in the chair. Only Rick takes ages to do this as Cactus watches on & still pulls the lever anyway, pretty much killing The Butcher. Abdullah feigns death as fireworks go off & he€™s electrocuted.

The good guys win! Abdullah the Butcher has been murdered! Yay!

Of all the Halloween gimmick matches in wrestling, this is by far the most intricate and also the most appalling. Although it€™s over-the-top, and it is truly awful at it€™s core, if you€™ve got some friends over and wanna have a few laughs, watch this on the WWE Network.
