5 Biggest Missed Opportunities From WWE Extreme Rules 2019

2. Poor Choice Of Main Event... Again

On paper, an Extreme Rules Mixed Tag Team match for both the Universal and Raw Women's Championship sounds like the perfect choice of main event match for this pay-per-view... that is, until you actually find out who the competitors are.

Becky Lynch's previous one-on-one encounters with Lacey Evans haven't been awful, but they have been both dull and forgettable. The same can be said for Seth Rollins' clashes with Baron Corbin, only we can say with certainty that those were actually awful. With that in mind, you can see why so much of the WWE Universe was apprehensive about the creative team's attempt to bring all of this together for the main event match at Extreme Rules.

To be fair, the match itself was of a higher standard than all of the respective showdowns between Lynch and Evans and Rollins and Corbin. That being said, it still paled in comparison to almost every other match on the card.

This would have been acceptable if it were an isolated incident, but the fact of the matter is that the main events are beginning to become one of the weaker aspects of WWE pay-per-views, and that's most certainly not a good thing. We saw it at Stomping Grounds with Rollins and Corbin's dreadful contest and now, here we are again.

The No Holds Barred Tag Team bout or the Last Man Standing match would have served as much better main events than this and, as most of the evening was of such a high standard, it's hard to see this as anything other than a major disappointment (and that's before you take into account the event's baffling conclusion).
