5. Loser: Curtis Axel

Curtis Axel wasn’t exactly set-up for success going into last night’s show. While Carmella may have beaten him to the dubious honour of being picked last overall in last week’s Draft, Axel was Stephanie McMahon’s 33rd selection, her last for Raw, and a damning indictment of where WWE see the former Social Outcast in the overall hierarchy.

Axel wrestled a three-minute stinker with the returning Neville last night, and that match did neither of them any favours. Despite being permitted some rare offence for a change, the quick loss leaves Axel dead in the water, but that’s not even the worst of it.

In announcing Axel as “Mr. Irrelevant”, they are effectively burying any chance he ever has of accomplishing anything in WWE. They’re telling fans that he’s somebody who doesn’t matter, and should be taken seriously. While nobody’s exactly crying-out for a giant Curtis Axel push, he’s a talented worker, a legend’s son, and somebody who should be treated with a little more respect.

Continually plagued by poor gimmicks and terrible creative direction throughout his tenure, Axel’s WWE career looks dead in the water. He’ll continue to find TV time as an enhancement talent, but if you’re going to flat-out label the guy “Mr. Irrelevant”, what does anyone even gain from beating him?
