5 Biggest Winners & Losers From WWE SmackDown Live (9 Aug)
1. Losers: The Wyatt Family
The Wyatt Family faced an uncertain future after the 2016 Draft. With Braun Strowman shunted off to Raw and Luke Harper still on the treatment table, there was strong speculation that the group was over, and even Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan would go their separate ways. Last week’s SmackDown showed that this wasn’t the case, as Rowan reunited with Wyatt to attack Dolph Ziggler, but they took a big step backwards this week.
Bray came out with Rowan to cut a solid promo at the top of the show, which of course drew Ziggler and Ambrose out from the backstage area. A brawl inevitably ensued, and shortly after the good guys had been laid-out, Shane and Bryan booked the four competitors in a tag match later that evening. The Wyatts met their newfound rivals in the ring for the main event, and Ziggler secured the win with a Superkick on Rowan.
Having an established unit like The Wyatts lose to two wrestlers who don’t usually team together is bad enough, but Ambrose and Ziggler seemingly can’t stand each other, and the Wyatts look like fools for losing to a team with little-to-no-chemistry. There’s potential for Wyatt to ascend as SmackDown’s top heel with most of his competition stuck on Raw, but as it stands, he and Rowan appear to being used as little more than props for the WWE Championship feud.
And now for the winners...
