5 Things We Learned From WWE Chronicle: Becky Lynch
5. 'The Man' Moniker Was Her Own Idea
This should perhaps come as no surprise whatsoever, given that it a) got over with just about everybody and b) was actually good, but Becky Lynch's decision to start modelling herself after Ric Flair by calling herself 'The Man' did not derive from WWE's expensively assembled writing brain trust.
At the start of the doc, Becky reflects how she first ran the gimmick past Mick Foley at a hockey game back in October, based on a friend back in Ireland's tendency to flippantly tell her she was 'the man'. Foley - obviously a man who actually understands the business - told her in no short order to "do it". She broke it out on Twitter, and pretty soon TV writers had no choice but to let her incorporate it into her act. They didn't even think it'd take off. Yup.
