5 Things You Didn't Know Were BANNED In TNA
2. Blading
Blading was outlawed by WWE management once the company went PG in the summer of 2008. What was once a go to trope for many matches throughout the 'Attitude' and 'Ruthless Aggression' days was now on the no no list. It's why guys like Batista were fined as much as $100,000 for a spot on Raw in 2008. That's a little bit more than 100 bucks, eh?!
A blade job performed by Steve Maclin in 2025 is believed to be partially why blading has been banned by TNA in the modern era. There was a deep cut on Maclin's head, and he donned the proverbial crimson mask like he was penning a love letter to NWA matches of the 1980s. Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes and terrifying behemoth Abdullah The Butcher would've been proud of that one.
TNA weren't proud, and they moved to stop the practice ASAP.
The rest of the industry didn't follow suit despite WWE banning the blade almost 20 years ago now. Independent shows were still rife with blades and a self-cutting action long after Vince McMahon's edict tumbled down. Fair enough, but it is barbaric and shouldn't be forced on any worker looking to bag a few bookings.
That's not to say anyone in TNA was outright forcing Maclin or any other wrestler to grab a razor blade and carve their own foreheads, but it wasn't exactly against company policy until last year. The blade ban raised broader questions about the use of blood in wrestling.
Here's a little something about that...
