5 Ups And 2 Downs From WCPW Loaded Episode 6
Stevens Vs. Blampied!
WhatCulture Pro Wrestling has quickly become one of the most talked-about independent promotions in the world, and the sixth episode of WCPW Loaded is a perfect example as to why. There was very little not to like on the show - the wrestling was king and the booking was straightforward. It almost felt like an episode of NXT, except the matches actually got time to develop and impress.
The top story heading into Loaded was that on last week's show, Aron Stevens (the man formerly known as Damien Sandow in WWE) defeated Doug Williams to become the number one contender to the WCPW Championship. That put him directly in the line-of-sight of champ Big Damo, as well as Damo's manager, Adam Blampied. By most accounts, that would make Stevens an underdog, so how would he respond?
The show was also full of wrestling action, with Damo, Williams, Noam Dar, Joseph Conners, Martin Kirby, Joe Coffey, El Ligero, and more in action - a murderer's row of the UK wrestling scene and men that WCPW should be proud to call regulars. Unfortunately, though, one of them would have to put his very job in the company on the line.
Here are six ups and two downs from WCPW Loaded episode six:
7. Up - Opening Strong
The opening contest on the show pitted Joseph Conners against El Ligero. Both men have been a part of WCPW since the very beginning, and this was an opportunity for both of them to move up the ranks.
The match started off slowly, with a little bit of comedy. Ligero did a roll in the ring, and not to be one-upped, Conners executed one of his own. After that, it was the referee's turn, and he delivered a pretty good roll in his own right. Later, Ligero and Conners did a double bridge spot out of a knuckle lock that was also played for laughs.
After that, though, the bout picked up. Both guys worked hard to score a win, drawing "This is awesome!" chants from the crowd. El Ligero used a cutter and nearly got the pinfall, but Conners fought back. In the end, Ligero came off of the ropes and Conners attempted to plant him with a powerslam, but Ligero reversed it into a roll-up and scored the pin.
A post-match handshake was the icing on the cake.
