3. Brock Quits Because… He’s Better Than Everyone
WWE tried to explain away why Brock Lesnar was suddenly on Raw, but there really was no good way to do it.
Less than a month after the WWE roster was split up into “permanent,” unbreakable, exclusive rosters between two networks, one wrestler “quit” one show, walked off with that brand’s top title and walked right onto the competing brand because… he has leverage. He’s special. He’s entitled and can do whatever he wants to.
And those lines from Paul Heyman elicited boos, which is good, but after spending a while building up the entire draft process and harping on how separate the rosters were, we got this situation, which undermined everything. (Do you really think Fox would let Brock walk off with the world title in real life? Try quitting your job and leaving with your office furniture, printer, computer and company car.)
And Heyman tried to explain it away by noting the Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross trade for future considerations, but Brock wasn’t traded, he quit. Big difference. (Also, Paul E. never clearly stated that Brock was one (or both) of those considerations.)
Again, this was a no-win situation, but this came off poorly.
