WWE’s latest Saudi Arabian house show/WrestleMania equivalent has come and gone, and we’re left to assess what the hell happened.

No titles switched hands, despite three championship matches and attempted Money in the Bank cash-in. The first-time-ever match between two Monday Night Wars veterans started strong and devolved into a sad reminder how far past their prime both men are. An epic encounter between two longtime rivals was sluggish but passable.

Super Showdown was most certainly not a WrestleMania-level PPV. Whether it was due to temperatures reaching 100 degrees (according to a company that regularly over-inflates attendance numbers), a deliberate throttling down of the wrestling, or just general malaise, the matches hovered between disappointing and acceptable. Nothing stood out, but nothing was actively bad – save for the main event.

There were a couple nice moments during the PPV, and we learned that the ring can indeed hold 50 men at the same time. But beyond that, this is an event that will fade to the background of memory quickly.

However, someone is going to need to explain a promo gaffe so surprising that it’s understandable if you missed it, but if you heard it and connected the dots, your jaw is still on the floor.
