Current NXT Women's Champion Asuka arrived on the scene way back in September 2015 and she has subsequently dominated all challengers put in front of her since, the 'Empress of Tomorrow' managing to stay undefeated in singles competition over the course of those 17 months. She is now the longest reigning NXT Women's Champion in history and at no point has it genuinely looked as though the title was in jeopardy.

Bayley, Emma, Alexa Bliss, Nia Jax, Eva Marie, Mickie James and a whole load more have stepped up to the plate to try and defeat the former Kana, and all have failed.

But all things come to an end in professional wrestling, and Asuka's undefeated streak is no different. The 'Empress of Tomorrow' must lose eventually and as time inches closer to that happening one major question must be answered - who will be the one to dethrone the Empress?

Here are five women who could be the first to defeat Asuka...

5. MaryKate

MaryKate isn't going to be a name that is familiar to large swathes of the WWE Universe but that will all change sooner rather than later, although that could yet end up false as MaryKate hasn't even been confirmed as her ring name. Whether she is billed as MaryKate or not, the former Andréa is the best option of the latest arrivals at the WWE Performance Center to dethrone Asuka.

After suffering a difficult start to her career in TNA as Rosie LottaLove, MaryKate retired in 2012 only to return in 2014 as a completely changed woman, 120 pounds lighter and almost completely unrecognisable in the ring. The sloppiness of her early days was replaced by a streamlined conviction and focus, and it didn't take long for the woman then billed as Andréa to become a respected name in women's wrestling.

Now at the Performance Center, MaryKate is an excellent choice to dethrone Asuka. In picking her, NXT would establish MaryKate as a force to be reckoned with in the women's division and set up a lot of possible story routes moving forward. Asuka would lose little in being defeated by someone who has the size advantage and excellent wrestling ability. MaryKate (or whatever she will be called) could be the one.
