6 Most Insane Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now (April 7)
3. Stephanie McMahon Received Comeuppance At WrestleMania
Stephanie McMahon would be a fantastic heel, if she could only grasp the very essence of what a fantastic heel is: a villain who routinely receives comeuppance to provide the audience with catharsis.
Throughout 2016 and 2017, her reign of terror continued apace. The WWE office perceives Sami Zayn as a "total geek", which might explain why Stephanie, office surrogate and representative, was scripted to berate him for no real storyline reason nor endgame. She b*llocked fellow heel Charlotte for relying on the interference of her dad, even though she orchestrated so many similarly tainted wins for Randy Orton and Seth Rollins during her stint as Authority figurehead. Weeks later, she referred to babyface Dean Ambrose's WWE Title reign as an "appalling nightmare". Zayn, Charlotte and Ambrose just stood there like dweebs. Mick Foley won't be mentioned here in accordance with WWE's wishes. We are meant to have forgotten about his existence so that wish will be honoured here.
On the evidence of WrestleManias 32 and 33, Stephanie does eventually get what's coming to her - but one measly table bump hardly justifies an entire calendar year of counterproductive burials that go somewhere in the vicinity of Simon Gotch's prospects on the Indy circuit. Especially when it was her bloody husband who put her through it. Why does she do what she does?
She can't do it because she thinks it makes for compelling television because it absolutely doesn't. Look at the ratings. Look at RAW's universal perception as an interminable obligation.
One can only deduce that Stephanie does this purely for her own amusement, but even that cannot be accurately determined for the woman is incapable of smiling. Look at any picture in which she tries. The deranged snarl fails comically at its impression of a human being.
