2. Lower Television Ratings Meant A Change Was Needed

There's absolutely no way that WWE could stay the course all the way to WrestleMania because of the declining ratings. Attendance numbers haven't been great either. While it's unfair to blame Rollins for it because creative didn't book him like a strong champion, a lot of people will point to him saying 'that guy can't keep the title'. When business is great, the champion and top guy receives the most credit. Think about guys like Hulk Hogan or Steve Austin when they were in that spot. It's why they are locked in as the biggest draws of the last 30 years. When business is down, the champion should get the most heat because he is the one that the company invested in and hopes will generate interest. This is why people will look back at Diesel's WWE Title reign 20 years ago with memories of the company almost going bankrupt due to declining numbers all across the board. Rollins wasn't a flop as WWE Champion by any means, but it would be wrong to say that he was an overwhelming success too. Based on the way business was currently going, all signs were pointing to a title change soon.
