5. Powerhouse Hobbs Vs Wardlow

AEW

In an unexpected but extremely welcome development, Wardlow revealed in a pre-match promo that he’d turned to Arn Anderson for guidance and support going into what felt like his last chance to reclaim the TNT Championship. It had a magic wand effect.

Wardlow looked equal parts smart, humble and confident with ‘Double A’ by his side, and when the legendary Horseman joined Penta El Zero M in taking out QT Marshall at the climax of his brawl with Powerhouse Hobbs, fans were rabid for a powerbomb symphony that put the secondary strap on ‘The War Dog’ for the third time.

There didn’t appear to be a fully functional finish on paper, but this went down well on the night. The post-mortem on Hobbs’ maiden reign won’t make for great reading, but he’ll recover form this loss and it peaked at its conclusion at the very least.
