5. Yet Another ACE Trios Match
Trios matches are just the best. AEW didn't pioneer the genre, but the decision to promote it as a key selling point of the promotion was ingenious. These matches rule almost every single time. Somehow, you never see the save coming. The formula is a conveyor belt of false finish drama.
CHAOS jumped the Blackpool Combat Club early. This was a great choice: it instantly ushered in the excitement and put over the BCC as an unbeatable gang of hard f*ckers. While the babyfaces shouldn't do this sort of thing in general, there's no hard and fast rule, and this worked in context - particularly since the BCC Vs. Best Friends subplot has never been abandoned. It's a neat bit of AEW continuity. The Best Friends still to this day feel insulted that Wheeler YUTA abandoned them for the BCC and wrestled, again, with a determination to prove them wrong.
This wasn't a standout Trios match - it was a blizzard of action without quite being a PPV quality TV affair - but one spot in particular was. Claudio Castagnoli countering a Trent moonsault with an uppercut was awesome enough for Bryan Danielson to howl with sadistic glee on commentary.
Next week, the BCC take on the Hung Bucks. That should be a PPV quality TV match, but the genre is so great that it can't be less than very good.
