6 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (July 5 - Review)

AEW

AEW is often fairly accused of not doing the basics right. Certain main events are under-promoted, certain matches aren't raved about after they happen, certain storyline developments aren't emphasised enough as huge, game-changing deals.

Last night, AEW felt slightly less rushed and chaotic. Eddie Kingston's career highlight was recapped - he won a title from KENTA, realising a dream of winning NJPW gold in Korakuen hall - as was Jon Moxley's reaction to it. Moreover, Collision was hyped up as a big show. This was a necessity - last Saturday's number was disastrous in context, given that it was in range of far cheaper re-run material that once occupied the time slot - but it should become the norm. Last week's Dynamite was recapped (not to an extent that insulted the intelligence) to make it feel like it mattered more.

It's the oddest thing - AEW is often so good that it should flex its muscles more on occasion - and hopefully, last night was the first sign of a strange trend getting reversed.
