6 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE SmackDown (13 Feb - Results & Review)
4. Women’s Triple Threat Keeps The Energy Up
On paper, Alexa Bliss vs. Giulia vs. Zelina Vega was a formality that'd see one of the first pair listed there qualify for the women's Elimination Chamber match. Yep, Alexa got the win, which actually makes sense given that her pal Charlotte Flair is in the Chamber lineup herself, but there was way more to this match than first meets the eye.
It marked another good watch on Friday’s card.
Admittedly, Giulia wouldn’t have been a bad choice either, but Alexa has more legacy star power so she goes in. All in all, these women managed to offset the obvious nature of the outcome by working an energetic match that held the live crowd's attention throughout. Special mention to Zelina too, because she got some nice spots out there and that isn’t always the case for her.
Vega has hit her ceiling in WWE circles and everyone knows it. She's never going to be the priority in the division whether she's on Raw, SmackDown or NXT, but the pint-sized veteran can still contribute to matches if she's feeling inspired. Zelina's performance levels rarely dip even if the booking might be considered disheartening, and that's complimentary to her professionalism.
Put it this way: The match was better for her involvement, and better than a Bliss vs. Giulia one-on-one would've been. Even so, she was never winning it and progressing to the Chamber PLE. Alexa got the nod, so expect to see some more miscommunication between she and Flair inside the steel structure at the end of the month.
