If this is the “new normal” for WWE programming going forward, then let’s admit right off the bat: ThunderDome is a nice upgrade from five months inside the WWE Performance Center.

SummerSlam presented well, and hopefully the company only improves on the medium as time wears on, making the show more watchable visibly, resembling the programming we’ve been accustomed to for years.

The PPV itself was a mixed bag, but one good world championship match with a somewhat weak ending, and another dismal match with a good end result. The women’s wrestling was strong, with Asuka once again proving to be one of the most valuable commodities in WWE today. Seriously, if that woman wants gold-plated masks, give her as many as she desires.

Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton turned in a solid title match, while Braun Strowman and The Fiend delivered a clunker. The Street Profits and Apollo Crews had matches, which is the best way to say it. Neither act seems to have much inertia to it these days. And Dominik Mysterio did pretty decently in his first WWE bout.

All told, SummerSlam wasn’t a home run, but it was more interesting and overall better than a lot of the WWE product in recent months, so we’ll give it overall passing marks.

With that said, let’s get to it…
