6. Pulling Back The Curtain
While we took a swipe at Ronda Rousey earlier for calling out the scripted nature of professional wrestling, we have to give credit to a wink-and-nod from Triple H later on.
During his staredown with Batista, Hunter acknowledged a reality that many fans are aware of, but is never revealed. As he surveyed the security standing between he and Batista, Triple H threatened to make his way up the entrance ramp and “tear my way through the Guardians of the Independent Scene or whatever they are.”
It was a perfect little joke, as fans know that the men in black shirts aren’t really security, but local wrestlers serving as cannon-fodder for the superstars. They’re nameless and faceless – except to the dedicated fans who recognize them.
And of course, Triple H’s comment was a reference to Batista’s role in the popular Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
