3. Invisible Champion, Invisible Build
There’s only so much Paul Heyman and Seth Rollins can do.
Rollins returned to Raw after his beatdown the night after Royal Rumble, when Brock Lesnar hit him with six F5s, leaving him lying in a heap. Rollins cut a pretty good promo about how he’s still standing, and verbally sparred with Lesnar’s advocate, Heyman. Paul E. noted that no one is on Brock’s level, that he’s merciless and will end Rollins’ career at WrestleMania.
And Rollins gave it back in kind, saying that he would do whatever it takes to end Lesnar’s reign of terror. But after several years of this routine – Heyman hypes while Brock sits at home until right before a PPV to show up and stand there doing nothing – it’s just gotten old.
It’s hard to get enthused for what should be a crowning achievement for Rollins when he’s sparring with an invisible champion. Heyman can only do so much as a stand-in. It just feels like we’ve long since run out of gas with this routine.
So let’s hope we finally end this long national nightmare at Mania, because the biggest title match build sure as hell isn’t the men’s bout right now.
