6. He Drunkenly Called Vince McMahon Over WWF Tenure

Story: Late-1994 marked a significant shift in the career of Randy Savage. Since 1992, Vince McMahon had expressed an interest in making Savage more of an ambassador for the WWF, rather than a full-time member of the wrestling crew. This didn't sit well with the wrestler himself, who still believed he had a lot to offer the company as an in-ring performer. Things came to a head when Savage's contract with the WWF ran out in late-October. Unable to come to terms on a new deal, he elected to sign with rivals World Championship Wrestling. One evening, he phoned Vince whilst under the influence of alcohol and basically verbally tore into him. Savage wasn't happy with how he had been presented, used more often as an announcer rather than a wrestler. This is one rumour often tagged along with others as to why McMahon had such disregard for Savage after he left the promotion. Why People Believe It: It's fairly easy to imagine that someone as proud as Randy Savage had issues with effectively being put out to pasture by the WWF. If WCW were offering Savage the chance to work as an actual wrestler (for big money), the man would have been afforded some peace of mind that tearing into McMahon wouldn't affect his immediate career prospects. Should We Believe It: It's tough to say whether this is true or not. If it is, McMahon didn't sell the supposed call on television. During a November episode of Monday Night Raw, he wished Savage all the very best in the future and remarked that he was one of the best performers the WWF had ever witnessed. It's hard to picture him doing that if he had received such a phone call.
