7 Reasons Conor McGregor Won't Be Joining WWE Any Time Soon
7. McGregor Didn't Grow Up A Fan Of The Business
The oft made comparison, when it comes to Conor McGregor jumping ship to (or even just making a special appearance in) WWE is Ronda Rousey. On its surface, that feels like a perfect, 'apples to apples' comparison.
Both UFC champions. Both brash, self-confident, dominant UFC fighters. Both were huge draws with a lot of attention in the mainstream. They are, arguably, the two biggest stars that UFC has ever produced — and pretty much at the same time.
The comparison stops there, however. Rousey was a lifelong wrestling fan. It was her frequently stated dream to appear in WWE. Her very nickname, Rowdy, is an homage to WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper, and she went as far to get his blessing when using the moniker.
McGregor has shown no boyhood love of wrestling, outside of mimicking Vince McMahon's power walk. He hasn't turned up at WWE events the way Rousey, Daniel Cormier and even Jon Jones have in the past. When McGregor is talking smack to WWE stars online, he's doing it for the attention that comes with it - but a run in the WWE is not at all top on his priority list.
There's no boyhood dream here, and other opportunities will take priority.
