One cannot expect monumental gains without taking a few calculated risks from time to time. This is the area in which WWE and the entire wrestling world has failed most in the past few years. Was Stone Cold Steve Austin a surefire entity? Not at first, he wasnt. What about Hulk Hogan? Popular, but not a megastar. Or even John Cena? Same story. Quite simply, WWE gambled on their future by putting the aforementioned superstars atop the company. As Cenas decade of dominance has proved, however, WWE has failed to take a leap into the abyss since the Cenation Leaders ascension to the top. WWE has often felt the need to take two steps back before taking a step forward. They allow their audience to become bored before feeling it necessary to build a new star. However, when the company finally does take a risky first step, it often leads to a bounding leap forward. WWE has been close to leaping ahead numerous times in the past few years, but has failed to do so. Now, the company seems to take one step forward and then change their mind and erase that step from history. How many times have you seen your favorite underdog superstar get a solid push, only for the company to put an immediate stop to it for no particular reason? Not only is WWE guilty, but TNA is as well. As previously mentioned, TNA Wrestling is a company that has failed to take risks at any point in its history. They have built themselves on the reputation and legacy of former WWE superstars. While the company has always had a strong crop of young talent, they have consistently failed to bring many of them to the forefront -- especially for any extended periods of time. If WWE, TNA, and wrestling as a whole, want to get out of the rut they are currently in, they must put faith in new stars and new ways of creating a product. Not only is the general lack of risk-taking a hindrance, but so is the currently formulaic, unoriginal writing and creative direction. Something needs to be done and soon, or professional wrestling will be plunged further into serious jeopardy.
